ARP Main Stud Kits

ARP now offers main studs with side bolts for the 5.0L Coyote block. These studs feature premium grade 8740 material that is rated at 200,000 psi tensile strength. Each kit includes the necessary bolts or studs, premium grade chrome moly nuts and washers for the application and a 1/2 oz. pack of ARP Ultra-Torque fastener assembly lubricant. ARP fasteners are centerless ground, heat treated prior to thread rolling and machining and designed to exceed the OEM fasteners in strength and durability. Optimum design, enhanced reliability and increased strength are the main attributes of ARP’s Pro Series fastener kits.

Why ARP Studs are Superior.

Firstly, ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy, rated far superior to aircraft quality. Secondly, studs are placed vertically into racks, and heat-treated to 190,000 psi. This procedure ensures complete heat penetration. As a result, they are far superior to lesser quality studs from other manufacturers, who just dump pieces in a basket and hope for the best.

Each stud is centreless ground after heat treatment. Consequently, the stud is as close to perfectly concentric as possible. This procedure involves about ten very slight cuts, and results in an exceptionally straight part. Additionally, poorer quality studs are not centreless ground. In fact, the material is thread-rolled in ‘bar stock’ form. This is done before heat treatment, when the material is easier to machine. Because ARP studs are manufactured to such exacting tolerances, you will note that gaskets and cylinder heads literally glide into position, and are perfectly aligned.

Quality Assurance

ARP studs are thread rolled after heat treatment. This gives them around 20 x better fatigue strength than studs threaded prior to heat treatment, which is a very common industry practice. Consequently, it costs a lot more to do it this way, because it’s tough on tooling, but the results are well worth the extra effort.
Ultimately, you won’t find a better quality stud on the market from any other source. Look for ARP stamped on each stud as your assurance of quality.
